Handout
(new!)
This Conference is organized by teachers involved in a Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Partnership (MMSP - Lowell Public Schools, EduTron Corporation, M.I.T., and Fitchburg State College) supported by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The science courses are partially supported by a Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, Improving Teacher Quality Grant.
Greetings!
Do you share some of the following dreams with most teachers of mathematics and
science?
·
After
prolonged exposure to students and grading, I have developed a longing for
intellectual, yet informal, interaction with other adults on subject matter...
· Through
years of refining my presentation, I have come up with a few jewels teaching
these topics. I wish others could see my bag of tricks in …
· No matter
what I tried, some of my students just wouldn’t get it. I need some
alternative ideas and approaches. Help!
· I know it
may be considered by some as too challenging, or even as an oddball topic, but
it contains good math/science! I wish I could show this to a larger audience other than
my spouse…
· I
discovered this fantastic approach/book/software/site and I have been using it
successfully. I hope others will find it useful…
· I am
seldom able to go to teacher conferences. I wish there were a
Conference right here in town so I could just pop in after...
· I am a
relatively new teacher and I wish I could peek into other teachers’ classrooms
and see how they do things. I wish I could talk directly to some experienced …
· I wonder
what all the analyses of Student Assessment mean…
· [Add your
own dream to the list.]
If your answer for any of the above is “Yes!”, then mark your calendar and come to this exciting event of local teachers, by local teachers, and for local teachers! This grass-roots event is meant to be fun, useful and no-pressure. Please bring your colleagues along; any teachers interested in math and science are invited.
The 2009 I3 Conference in Mathematics and Science
Date: Wednesday, March 25, 2009
You
will get refreshments, attendance certificates, and best of all, an all-adult professional ambience
in which to talk math/science and compare notes on math and science teaching. You will rub elbows
with fellow professionals from Lowell. We will make
new friends and have fun!
and let us know you plan on coming.
In
addition to attending, please seriously consider presenting at the event.
Your presentation will add another dimension to the high quality presentations
by people who took the Intensive Immersion Institute (I3)
courses[1].
Read on for more information and pitch in.
Hope
to see you there!
